Dr Shyam Gangadharan is a Specialist Physician in General Medicine with special interest in Neurology based in Newcastle, NSW. Most recently, he was Staff Specialist in General Medicine and Stroke Neurology at Calvary Mater Hospital Newcastle where he was also Director of the Stroke Unit. He served as a Staff Specialist at John Hunter Hospital, Australia, where he earlier completed a two-year Fellowship in Stroke Neurology. He graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).

Dr Gangadharan’s clinical expertise includes stroke, TIA, headache, migraine, tremor, seizure, functional neurological disorders and cognitive impairment. Given his strong grounding in General Medicine, his scope of practice extends to general medical presentations such as confusion, collapse, speech difficulty, dizziness, weakness, shortness of breath, cardiac and respiratory conditions, metabolic problems, chronic health disorders and diagnostic dilemmas. He has a clinical and research interest in Neuro-oncology, that is neurological conditions affecting patients with cancer.

Aspiring to a holistic model of patient care combined with a natural joy for teaching, Dr Gangadharan balances his clinical roles with academic pursuits. Affiliated with the University of Newcastle as a Clinical Lecturer, he has published in several peer-reviewed journals and has been involved in various clinical trials.
